“We foster integrated health for all while empowering the vulnerable, women and children”
Maria Nilayam, Adimalathura, was established by the Southern Province
of the Missionary
Sisters of the Queen of the Apostles (SRA Sisters). Healing ministry through the Maria
Nilayam Hospital is the expression of the mission of the congregation, unwavering
commitment of service to the people especially the vulnerable communities, women and
children with compassionate love of Jesus. Responding to the request of the diocesan
bishop and the parishioners to assist in addressing the pastoral, medical, and
educational needs of the local population, Maria Nilayam Convent was established on July
20, 1988. Recognizing the urgent health needs of the village a dispensary was began in a
rented house on September 1, 1988 and late Rev. Sr. M. Priscilla, a trained nurse, began
offering essential medical care, marking the beginning of the congregation’s healthcare
ministry in the region. To expand and formalize this mission, the Maria Nilayam Health
Centre was constructed and inaugurated on March 7, 1995. Designed as a mother and child
care centre with outpatient (OP) and inpatient (IP) facilities, the new Health Centre,
soon became a cornerstone of healthcare delivery in the locality. This initiative is not
just a medical intervention but an extension of the congregation’s broader mission to
serve and uplift the community.
After 18 years, in 2012 the health centre was upgraded to a 20 bedded
hospital at
Ambalathumoola. The infra-structure facilities like operation theatre, well equipped
labour room, advanced laboratory with auto analyser, ECG, X-ray, Ultrasound scanning
facilities; Medical ICU etc are now available in Maria Nilayam Hospital. The hospital is
functioning for 24 hours round the clock and managed by well experienced and efficient
doctors and other technical personnel.
